Massive repoussé Buddha,

Nepal - gilded copper - 74 x 45 cm - 18th century

sitting in the padmasana position on a double lotus flower base. The left hand rests in his lap in the avakasamudra gesture, while the right hand touches the ground performing the bhumisparsamudra.

The monastic robe he wears is enriched by chiseled phytomorphic decors on the trim. On his face, displaying substantial traces of polychrome pigments, is a serene, hieratic look. One of the hands of the figure was cast: it is modular and can be removed from the sculpture.
