Portrait of LamaTibet - Gilt copper alloy - Height 5.125 inches (13.02cm) - 16th/17th century The figure is finely cast, seated on a lotus base with his hands in the dharmachakra – a gesture representing the teaching of the path to enlightenment.  The lama is wearing a voluminous robe with incised borders and has superb face, with full lips and heavy-lidded eyes – the statue is very likely a representation of an actual Tibetan Lama – someone who was a spiritual leader and head of a monastery who taught the dharma in Tibet.
