Wooden Turana

Nepal - Policrome wooden - Hight 76,5 - Large 61,5 cm - 18th century

Turana, in all likelihood originally from a small temple, portraying in the center of the upper arch the winged god Garuda, with two naginis and two chimeras (makara) on either side, among cloud shaped ornamentation. On the two columns are portrayed Ganesh, on the left side, and Vishnu, on the right one.

Beneath these two figures two inscriptions are engraved, while at the center of the base Kali is pictured, surrounded by those who probably commissioned the work, resting on pedestals with further inscriptions.
