A bronze figure of Buddha's pupil

A bronze cast probably depicting one of the historical Buddha's main pupils, Sariputra or Maudgalyayana.

The same subject matter and method of producing the cast leads one to think that it would have been part of a larger and more articulated composition that would probably have been against a temple wall or set within an aedicule.

There is an inscription on the lotus flower base and each of its petals.
